Shenandoah National Park’s Thornton Gap entrance is about 15 miles away, and Skyline Drive runs 105 miles along the ridge. Old Rag reservations are often required, so confirm current requirements with the National Park Service. Our local attractions page lists drive times from the resort.

Charlottesville and UVA are 25 miles to the south, about a 40-minute drive, with historic downtown restaurants and breweries. Washington, DC is 80 miles away, about 2 hours. If your trip leans toward Charlottesville, our guide to RV parks near Charlottesville covers that side of the area.

Visiting by Season

We’re open 365 days a year. The cottages are heated, the spa stays at 102°F year-round, and the weekly events and holiday celebrations carry on through the off-season. The pool is seasonal, and summer brings the busiest events calendar and the most programming for kids. Our Blue Ridge packing guide lists what to bring, whether you’re in an RV or a cottage.

In autumn the Blue Ridge fills with color, and Skyline Drive offers dozens of overlooks across the Shenandoah Valley. Fall is also harvest time in Virginia wine country, and Graves Mountain holds an apple festival on weekends in October. Our guide to Blue Ridge fall foliage shows what a fall trip looks like.

Winter keeps the heated cottages and the warm spa, and layers and a rain jacket help with changeable mountain weather. Our winter activities guide has ideas for the colder months.
