Cinco De Mayo Weekend: May 2 – 4
Friday, May 2nd
Social Hour & Loteria
5:30pm – Jefferson Event Center
Are you ready for a fun weekend? Start off by joining us at the Jefferson Event Center for Ham and Cheese Sliders with Deviled Egg Potato Salad for only $5.00. Around 6:30pm we will transition into 4 fast-paced games of Loteria (Mexican Lottery).
Loteria is a traditional Mexican board game of chance, similar to bingo, but played with a deck of cards instead of numbered balls. Each card has an image of an everyday object, its name, and a number, although the number is usually ignored. Each player has at least one tabla, a board with a randomly created 4 × 4 grid selected from the card images. Players choose a tabla (“board”) to play with, from a variety of previously created tablas, each with a different selection of images. Each card can be purchased at the door for $5.00 and all cards are good for all 4 games. You are sure to have a good time with this game.
Please purchase your $5.00 meal tickets by 2:00 pm Friday afternoon in the office.
Saturday, May 3rd
10:00am – Family Craft – Polk Room
After a fun evening of Loteria and time by the fire with the family, come join us in the Polk and create your very own set of Maracas. Choose from many different paint and marker colors to create your own unique wooden instrument. Please sign up in the office and cost is only $5.00.
11:00am – Pass the Sombrero – Quad
After you are finished with crafts, join us in the Quad for a fun day of contests, fun and games. We will start the fun with a traditional Sombrero Pass the Hat game. In this game, individuals will sit in circle and pass the Sombrero around to traditional Mexican music. When the music stops, the person holding the Sombrero is out. The game then continues until there is one holding the hat and that person will win a special gift.
12:30pm – Hot Sauce Challenge
Following the Sombrero game we will move into our Hot Sauce Challenge. In this daring game participants taste different hot sauces that have been spiced up from mild to extra hot. Each guest will have a glass of milk to help cool your taste buds if they get to hot. The guest who finishes tasting all the hot sauces without drinking their milk will win a special gift.
1:30pm – Chili Pepper Relay Race – Quad
If the hot sauce challenge isn’t enough, try your luck at the Chili Pepper Relay Race. In this competition you will pick up with your mouth a chili pepper from a plate and transfer it to another plate across the Quad. The chili peppers will range in spiciness and the guest who gets 5 across the finish line first, wins a special gift.
2:30pm – Piñata Smashing – Quad
We will round out the day with a fun activity for the kids, a Piñata Smashing! There will be two different age groups 6 & under and 7 & over. The kids will be given a bat and the object is to break open the piñata. Each kid will be be blindfolded and given 3 swings each.
